Footwear,  Orthotics  & Insoles

Footwear advice

Foot health conditions can be caused or exacerbated by inappropriate footwear.

At each appointment we review people's footwear and frequently make recommendations to improve mobility.  For some people they may require a soft shoe and others a more ridged sole.  In addition we may advise upon the use of cushioning/offloading insoles or orthotics to prevent immobility and foot pain.

Orthotics

Orthotics are used to treat musculoskeletal and sports injuries.  They are generally firm shaped insoles that work to modify the forces through your feet when walking.  They reduce the load in painful and injured areas, so the tissues can heal.

Some orthotics also provide superior cushioning and support for people with general foot pain.

A detailed musculoskeletal assessment is required before fitting orthotics to establish to cause of the pain and injury.  They work best in conjunction with appropriate footwear and a rehabilitation exercise program.

Insoles

Custom insoles are used to prevent pain when walking due to corns and callus.  By adding padding to the area around the corn, the pressure is reduced and consequently the corn will not return as quickly.
